The aims of this project are to:

  1. Identify the key factors that are likely to shape the evolution of the bioeconomy in Australia, within a global context. This encompasses the consideration of shifting industrial boundaries and the socio-economic implications arising from peak oil, climate change and environmental regulation, and the rapid pace of knowledge transformation in the biosciences.
  2. Identify the most critical issues that might affect the prospects for the Australian bioeconomy in the next 10 to 30 years.
  3. Explore the value chains and new business models required to capture value from the transformation of traditional agriculture.
  4. Identify policies and measures required to encourage the research necessary to understand the possibilities from the bioeconomy transformation.
  5. Identify areas for public/private cooperation in achieving significant transformation and value capture.
  6. Increase awareness throughout the whole of Australian industry of the concept of the bioeconomy and its potential impact in the near future.
  7. Explore the opportunities for international collaborative research.
